Ranks and Hierarchy

Authoritative Ranks

Jarl

[ ‘Jarl’ before the name ]

The Jarl is the male head of the Tribe. It is by tradition that there should always be two Jarls to oversee the tribe as awhole. The Jarl is betrothed to the Frú.These mated pairs are always to be arranged.

Frú

[ ‘Frú’ before the name ]

The Frú is the female head of the Tribe. It is by tradition that there should always be two Frús to oversee the tribe as a whole. The Frú is betrothed to the Jarl. These mated pairs are always to be arranged.

Baron

[ AC II ]

The Baron is the male Primus Canis dirus who is second-in-command. They oversee the tribe when the at least one of the Frús or Jarls are out of commission. They are the ones who deal with foreign issues; not the Jarl or Frú. They report to their superiors in person to discuss these issues. The Baron and Baroness are not a mated pair, but can be.

Baroness

[ AC II ]

Duchess [ AC III ]

The Duchess  is the female Primus Canis dirus who is third-in-command. They assist the Baroness when they are in need of assistance. The Duchess deals with domestic issues; not their superiors. They report to the Jarl and Frú in person. The Duke and Duchess are not a mated pair, but can be.

Thane

[ ACxT ]

Thane’s are advisors to the Frú and Jarl. They help them make certain decisions that will benefit the Tribe as a whole.

Council Member

 [ ACxC ]

Council member’s consist of wolves who partake in the general decision making of the Tribe as a whole. Although their word is not law, their opinions and thoughts matter as they are the ones who closely interact with the Tribe in comparison to the other members in authority.

Superior Ranks

Bishop

[ ACxB ]

Bishops are the Fru’s designated guards. They ensure that the Fru’s are protected at all times even once they have paired off with a Jarl. These guardians never leave the Fru’s side and may even watch over the offspring of the Fru’s in the event they are ordered to.
 

Gladiator

[ACxX ]

Gladiators are king of the beasts, organizing together Beast Slayers to take them on when they get too close. They occasionally collaborate with Vagabonds who monitor their locations and numbers. If their numbers get too large, the Gladiators take action.

 

Shaman

[ ACxM ]

Shamans  are the ones who physically tend to the patients; tending to their wounds are various illnesses. They oversee Herbalists, making sure they bring back the right herb and collaborate with the Vagabond to record over/under procuring.
 

Priest/Priestess

[ ACxA ]

Priests/Priestess follow the pattern of the stars, reading them, and making predictions of what is to come. They say they have spiritual ties with them; the stars answer their questions and at times, show them what's to come. The Fru and Jarl, or mostly any of the authorities will come to seek answers or a possible future of the Tribe.

 

Shepherd

[ ACxH ]

Shepherds are lead hunters and huntresses. They select only the most competent hunters to create hunting parties and lead them into uncharted lands for prey. They monitor the food pile and collaborate with Vagabonds to record over/under hunting.

 

Vagabond

[ ACxS ]

Vagabonds spend most of their time outside of territory either in pairs or in a small scouting party. They oversee and teach Wayfinders how to read to Earth and the signs when natural disasters are to happen. They always observe the growth of the vegetation and the numbers of both prey and beasts.

 

Warden

[ ACxG]

Wardens ensure that the laws are being followed within the tribe. To do this, they take charge of Executioners as these wolves do the dirty work for them.They make sure the guards are always on duty and make the schedules stating who is on duty and when. The Wardens, however, mostly spend their time within the Main Grounds. Occasionally, they are assigned to a certain authority if requested.

Another part of their job is working alongside War Lords to keep tabs on Smilodon movement.

 

War Lord

[ ACxW ]

WarLords are in charge of organizing Brawlers together for both spars and raids. They ensure that enemies are kept and will occasionally join Beast Hunts. However, their main focus is keeping tabs on Smilodon movement.

Specialized Ranks

Artisan

[ CxA ]

Artisans are a creative bunch. They forage outside the territory for objects and dyes that can be useful in ceremonies and promote life within the tribe. They enjoy scavenging, seeing new things, and at times, getting into mischief. Overall, they are a welcoming bunch who wish to assist when need be.

 

Beast Slayer

[ CxX ]

Beast Slayers do not necessarily leave the front lines, however, they turn their attention to another potential enemy. The beasts and night crawlers that prowl day and night pose a threat that cannot go unnoticed. These wolves protect the tribe from those beasts that threaten the tribe’s safety. 

 

Den Mother

[ CxDm ]

Den Mothers lead protective and supportive roles of adolescence. However, in their off hours, they can assist with Herbalist and Medics in caring and watching over the injured and the Elder. Their main role lies in being a broodmother to expecting mothers. They consistently check on the expecting mothers and assist them during pregnancy; coaching them through the steps (especially for first-time mothers).

 

Executioner

[ CxE ]

Executioners deal out punishments as needed to those who break the law. In addition, they oversee those with a prisoner or omega rank.

 

Matchmaker

[ CxV ]

Arranged marriages is a common thing with the tribe. The tribe wants the best genes going into the next generation and the Matchmaker ensures that happens. These wolves are well respected and at times, others may approach these wolves for advice regarding love.

 

Warlock

[ CxAp ]

Warlocks are strictly apprentices to the Priest/Priestess. They follow in their footsteps, learning the constellations, and begin forging a bond with those amongst the stars. They, for the most part, keep to themselves.

 

Witch Doctor

[ CxWD ]

Witchdoctors use herbs procured by Herbalists to create stocks of pre-made medicine to be used by the Medic. In their free time, they are open to making ‘medicine’ (stamina potion, “love” potion, promote odor) that can be bought with either food or service.

Introductory Ranks

Warrior

[ Cw ]

Warriors fight of the tribe, participating in both raids and wars against our enemy: Smilodon populator, as well as against other beasts that might prowl the lands a little too close.

 

Guard

[ Cg ]

Guards ensure that the laws are being followed in and around the tribe. They stand watch at the borders, ensuring that no beasts or night crawlers invade the camp. These wolves do not necessarily deal punishment; that task is handed to a specialized rank.

 

Herbalist

[ Cm ]

Herbalists occasionally have their hands on with patients as they lack experience. They spend their days overseeing their superiors as to how medicine is prepped and how injuries are maintained. Herbalists gain experience through procuring herbs and tending to both the injured, sick, and young.

 

Hunter/Huntress

[ Ch ]

Hunters and Huntresses track prey and ensure that the food pile is never full; yet never empty. They are not the ones who keep track of provisions, as their superior does that. However, they are the ones doing the dirty work.

 

Wayfinder

[ Cs ]

Wayfinders are wanderers, scouts so to say. They prowl the lands day and night, keeping tabs on many things. Are we overhunting? Underhuting? Are we procuring too much; or too little? Or perhaps, is nature about to strike? They are overseen by their superior, the Vagabond.

Other Ranks

Elder

[ ‘Elder’ before the name ]

When the wolf comes to the age of either 8 or 9, they are relieved of their duties from the tribe and allowed to live simply and at peace for the rest of their life.

 

Adolescent

[ AC ]

Those between the ages of 6 months to a year. This is a transition rank into adulthood, as Adolescents have the ability to venture into other areas of the territory and become more involved. In this time, Adolescents begin to understand what rank they would like to venture into.

 

New Blood

[ ACp ]

New Blood are pups that are born into the tribe. 

 

Omega

[ ‘Omega’ before the name ]

This is a punishment rank for those who break the rules. Those given this rank will be put on probation for 3 days minimum [irl] before receiving their previous rank once more. During this time, Omegas are subject to humiliation but never beatings. For the most part, Omegas are held in the pit where they receive little food and water.

 

Prisoner

[ aXc ]

Prisoners are always always kept in the pit where they receive little food and water. They are subject to constant beatings and tortures and only with good reason, will be released.
